THE LAW OF QISAS (JUST RETALIATION), HUMAN GENEROSITY AND FORGIVENESSThe law of Qisas (just retaliation) is one of Shiite’s most beautiful laws, which takes into consideration both, the freedom of the will and the emotions as well as the punishment of the criminal. I would like to insist on the fact that the intention here is not execution, but rather the safeguarding of human dignity, freedom, and his will to forgive while respecting his feelings and emotions. Islam has not obliged the remaining family of the victim to punish the criminal, or it has not taken away their freedom in not showing any reaction at all, but it has, at the same time, taken into consideration the issue of human forgiveness and humanity while, on the other hand, it gives notice to the society and those responsible that in order to prevent the future occurrence of such crimes, what sorts of policy would be expedient.
